What is Two-Way CABE?
Two-Way CABE is a State affiliate of the California Association of Bilingual Education. Two-Way CABE's mission is to provide technical assistance and professional development for Two Way Bilingual Immersion / Dual Language schools and programs in California and throughout the U.S. The organization was founded on the belief that second language learning must be a component of every child's educational experience in the U.S.
Over the past 20 years, TWBI programs have proven to be the most successful model for students who seek bilingualism and biliteracy, high academic achievement, and the development of positive intercultural relationships and pro-social skills.
Two-Way CABE was founded six years ago by a group of California's most experienced and talented Two-Way Bilingual Immersion educators:
Judy Lambert, California Department of Education (retired) Sacramento, California
Rosa G. Molina, Former Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, San José Unified School District, San José, California; Current Executive Director
Shelly Speigel-Coleman, Executive Director of
Californians Together, Long Beach, California
Marcia Vargas, Upland, California
(Retired after serving as the the organization's founding Executive Director for five years).
The organization is led by a talented Board of Directors, composed of experienced TWBI educators and administrators from throughout California. The Board meets quarterly to facilitate the progress of the organization.
Two Way CABE hosts the National TWBI Conference each summer and has done so for 18 years. Two-Way CABE also engages in contractual teacher training and program implementation work with districts and regional collaboratives; provides New Teacher Institutes; coaches school administrators in TWBI Program Leadership; and supports TWBI and Dual Language organizations throughout the U.S. by designing training programs that can be replicated at their own sites.
